Great Expectations

Pause you who read this, and think for a moment of the long chain of iron or gold, of thorns or flowers, that would never have bound you, but for the formation of the first link on one memorable day.
What is Pip referring to?
How has this day altered him?
How has Pip's character developed on this "memorable day?"
Think of a memorable day in your life that began your "chain." How can the formation of your character or the person you are now be traced back to one life-altering day? Write two paragraphs. The first paragraph should discuss Pip's experience and the second paragraph should describe your own personal experiences.

Within this quote from the book Great Expectations Pip explains how one out of many memorable moments can alter your life drastically. The chain Pip discribes is the chain links formed by how you live your life whether they are gold (rich), thorns (ruff), or flowers (happy and joyful) links. This day has altered his perspective of himself and life. He no longer wanted to be Joe's apprentice for he had become inlove with Estella and knew once he was apprenticed to Joe he would no longer see Estella as much. Pip's character began to change emensly after this day. He grew more mature and understanding, and more emotional and feeling. In the beginning of Chapter 14, Pip says "Within a single year all this was changed. Now, it was all coarse and common, and I would not have had Miss Havisham and Estella see it on my account." which clearly shows that Pip's perspective has been altered since that day.
The memorable day in my life that began my "chain" was when i was 10 years old when my dad had his head injury. Life after that was never the same. My dad was a completely different person and to this day i dont remember what he was like before his injury. This accident caused many changes in my life and changed my perspective on how life works. After his accident, many unpredictable changes have occured. life is unpredictable in many ways and brings new experiences, bad or good, along the way. life is unfair and is short so enjoying the small things in life brings new meaning to your views of life and might make you more optomistic on what lifes got to give. This is clearly different from what i thought before the accident. i was oblivious to what happened in the real world and of the pain and suffering people go through. But after that day, my mind was opened to what really happens and i now am more understanding of the suffering that some people may come across in life.

Collaboration on Group Essay

So the paragraph that we decided i would do was about the comical lies/ or the mild lies. The three points that i'm using in my paragraph is Cecily making up her and Algernon's engagement in her journal, Cecily trying to make Miss Prism go away on a walk with Dr. Chasuble, and the topic of the reacurring motif of bunburying.
My commentary for my first point is focusing on how Celcily lies to herself to attempt to make her fantasy a reality in her own mind. So in a way, she is lying to herself. My commentary for the second point is about how Cecily dislikes her German lessons so much that she tried any thing possible to avoid her lessons. The commentary for my third point shows how Algernon uses Jacks lies against him to lie about himself being Jack's brother, Earnest, so that he can finally meet Cecily which then becomes an ironic situation for Jack and a lie that is made almost impossible to get out of.

Also, i would like to ask about my second point. I'm not really sure if my commentary adresses Cecily's lie correctly and if it supports the thesis properly. Please let me know what you think. Thanks.
